Why Build Green?

Interest in green building and sustainability is continuing to grow, but the motives are more personal than altruistic for consumers.  While saving the environment is important, saving money each month with a more energy efficient home that costs less and a healthier living environment that directly impacts the family are the main motivators.

Our home is where we spend the vast majority of time eating, sleeping, cleaning,  playing and living our daily lives. For most, a home is the biggest investment we will ever make. It is also the majority of a family’s annual spending budget.

Furthermore, the EPA states the indoor air pollution is the nation’s number one environmental health problem. They estimate that indoor air is two to five times more polluted than outdoor air, on the average. This pollution comes from the products that make up your home (paint, drywall, etc) and the products that you use within your home (ie – furniture, cleaning supplies).

To incorporate greener products and principles is important for the health of your family. It doesn’t hurt that is can also mean saving money each month.

In the end, it doesn’t matter why people are choosing to build more sustainable homes. It simply matters that it does.
